Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro are the first smartphones globally to debut with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset

Xiaomi has introduced its new flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro, in China. These devices come equipped with up to 16GB of RAM, a 5,500mAh battery, and 90W fast charging capabilities.
The Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro are also notable for being the world’s first smartphones to incorporate Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Xiaomi claims that the Xiaomi 15 will be the most affordable flagship model with this advanced chip “this year.” During the launch, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed plans for a global release of the series soon. “I’m excited to announce that we’re bringing the Xiaomi 15 Series to global markets soon. This series embodies our commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and design. Looking forward to sharing it with everyone,” he wrote in a post on X.
Although Lei Jun didn’t provide a specific timeline, industry speculation suggests a global launch could occur in late 2024 or early 2025. In India, Xiaomi launched the 14 series in March of this year.
Another intriguing aspect of Lei Jun’s statement is the possibility of a simultaneous release for both the standard and Pro models in global markets, including India. Historically, Xiaomi has not launched the Pro variants in India, choosing instead to release the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Ultra this year while leaving out the Pro model. This new announcement raises hopes that the Xiaomi 15 Pro may also make its debut in India, alongside the standard version.
Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro Pricing
At its launch event in China, Xiaomi introduced the Xiaomi 15 series with competitive pricing for the flagship models. The standard Xiaomi 15 starts at 4,499 Chinese yuan, which is roughly equivalent to ₹53,000 when converted to Indian currency. This price point positions the Xiaomi 15 as an affordable flagship option within the premium smartphone segment, providing high-end features and performance at a more accessible cost.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi 15 Pro, the more advanced model in the series, begins at a price of 5,299 yuan, translating to approximately ₹62,500. This slightly higher price reflects the added enhancements and features unique to the Pro model, including improvements in display, battery capacity, and camera capabilities. With these prices, Xiaomi aims to cater to users looking for a premium experience with advanced technology, while still offering a competitive edge compared to other high-end smartphones in the Chinese market.
Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro Specifications and Features
The Xiaomi 15 offers a highly customizable design, with a choice of 20 unique back panel styles and two frame options, creating a total of 40 possible configurations. Additionally, a Diamond Edition offers three exclusive color choices. The Xiaomi 15 Pro is available in four elegant shades: Bright Silver, Rock Gray, White, and Spruce Green.
Both models come with a base configuration of 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage, with options reaching up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Maintaining a compact design similar to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 15 features a 6.36-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Both models include a 50-megapixel triple camera setup; however, the Xiaomi 15 Pro stands out with its periscope-style telephoto lens, which enables up to 5x optical zoom, compared to the 3x optical zoom limit on the Xiaomi 15.
